Episode 10: AWOKEN by BLAQROSEThe update

• Welcome to “Talk with Us” by RADARCharts, where we embark on a new-age journey of awakening with the SAPA RIDDIM crooner, BlaqRose. It’s a pleasure to have you here. Could you share with us your real name?
Peter Attah
• Our audience would love to know when you officially began your music career professionally.
Well, I started voicing and recording in 2017 and released my first song in 2018. Trust me, those are lost files now, lol.
• We’ve observed a backtrack, or perhaps a step back, from the style you developed earlier in your career, particularly from your school days. Could you elaborate on what led to this change?
Let’s just say everything dawned on me when I got into the university. At that point, I realized this wasn’t what I truly wanted to study.
So, I told myself, “Let’s just get this done with, but know this now—if you ever want to put food on your table (career-wise), it just has to be music.” And bam! In November 2019, I decided to pursue it fully.
• Regarding your fans, how did those who truly love your music react to your recent change in direction?
I received messages and check-ins, especially when I stopped posting or texting. I tried to communicate through song covers, letting them know I’m still here and that music is important to me, despite the challenges. Pretending everything was okay wasn’t easy, but I appreciate those who stood by me. Now, I’m focused on patching things up, moving forward, and not losing myself again.
• Reflecting on your early days as a student artist, what was it like navigating the challenges, especially considering the unique environment of Veritas University, which is akin to a boarding school with its own set of obstacles?
A big shoutout to Veritas University—that place can either shape or break you depending on your choices. Back in 2019, with about 200 students, it was crucial to either grow with the population or struggle as it increased. I chose growth, even though I knew only a few people initially.
My focus was on building connections and relationships, not seeking praise. Although I’ve encountered people who fabricated stories about meeting me, I stayed true to myself. The journey of self-discovery there has been both challenging and rewarding.
• Your awakening process—what was the thought? What was that call you had that made you realize you were backwards?
Having faith in God always paves the way. Despite the emotional weight of my journey, I stayed focused and didn’t dwell on obstacles. It’s crucial to find sources of encouragement and motivation while staying true to yourself.
• Now that you’re ready to take the stand, what are you expecting? Any special projects or features?
I hope listeners focus more on my lyrics rather than just the beat or melody. Once my connection with my audience is strong, I’ll release my songs, ensuring the timing is right for maximum impact.
• Given the opportunity to say something to your potential fans, what’s the word?
Zumzy Brown made me realize there’s a different world out here. It might be tough, but when you know what you want, you don’t stop until you get there. Also, never grow wings until you reach the top; that way, if you fall, you won’t have to use the stairs anymore.
“Don’t judge me now; cross-reference when I start getting everything I’ve worked for.” I promise you haven’t seen my kind before—I’m way different.
My name, BlaqRose, isn’t just a name. It’s a coin—head and tail. It’s an experience of rise and fall. It represents my life, love, and hate.
