• We have a real traveler here, all the way from Cameroon. Nice to have you on today’s episode of TALK WITH US, Vherse… let’s know you officially. What’s your real name?
My birth name is Ndi Graham Nyincho.
• What inspired the name Vherse?
The name Vherse, I can’t really explain what inspired it, but I’m working to build what makes the name.
• How long have you been an artist?
Professionally since 2023, but I’ve always been a music person. I first recorded in 2019 and have been doing freestyles since then.
• You seem to have a record on your hands (first African artist to top the chart outside Nigeria). Did your Top Chart position come as a shock, or did you see that track going places?
Well, I believed I put out a good song, so I wouldn’t say I was shocked. Instead, I count it as a blessing to be recognized.
• Your RADARCharts-topping track, ‘Aye,’ seems to have a lot of emotions attached to it. What’s the song about, and what was its creative process?
‘Aye’ is a very personal song. It depicts my struggles, goals, and the motivation I need to stay focused on my journey.
As for the creative process, I wrote and recorded ‘Aye’ on my phone using the BandLab app before it ever made its way to the studio.
• How can you describe the journey of coming up and keeping up in Cameroon?
My journey has been nothing short of God’s grace, I must say. There have been ups and downs—very challenging times—but I keep trusting.
• Have you ever had a reason to stop music? If so, how did you survive that?
It could only be a wild natural thought on some days, but I haven’t had a concrete reason to stop.
• Who do you wish to work with in the future?
It’s a long list, but I’ll name a few: Jovi, Omah Lay, Victony, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Libianca, and it goes on.
