Episode 9: GREYKAT by MANNIE TSEAYOThe update

• Hello Mannie, nice to have you on today’s special episode of TALK WITH US… let’s know you officially. What’s your real name?
My government name is Tseayo Emmanuella Nguavese.
• What’s the inspiration behind your stage name?
Mannie is short for Emmanuel, and it’s usually spelled with a “Y,” so I added “IE” to give it my own flare. I was just Mannie until a conversation with Felix Shyne inspired me to add my surname to it. It made sense to me, hence “Mannie Tseayo.”
• How long have you been into music?
I was born into the choir, recorded my first song when I was 8 thanks to my uncle Paul (PIP CLASSIC), and I’ve been writing and recording ever since.
• Given your status as a female rapper, it comes with a lot of backlash. How have you coped with that?
I try not to pay attention to things like backlash and instead focus on further honing my craft.
• Have you ever been intimidated in the field before?
Nervous? Yes, I’ve been. Intimidated? Nah (lol).
• Let’s talk family. We know the expectations of a girl child. How were you able to stand out with your career?
Luckily, the only expectations I pay attention to are the ones I carve out for myself.
• What’s your drive and mentorship process?
My existence is my drive.
• Who do you wish to work with in the future?
Tems, Blaqbonez, Bloody Civ, Nicki Minaj, Burna Boy, Kendrick Lamar… The list goes on, honestly, because I look forward to working with as many people as I can.
