After a year of silence, OBI Xtra is stepping back into the spotlight with a record that feels personal, melodic, and quietly defiant. Titled “Why Me”, the upcoming single marks a new chapter for the Enugu-born singer and songwriter—and it doesn’t come with apologies or labels.
Born Obinna Nwankwo, OBI Xtra’s story is rooted in freestyles, high-school hallways, and late-night covers of hip-hop records. What started as experimentation quickly evolved into intent. Post-graduation, he made the decision many artists hesitate to make: to take the music seriously, on his own terms.
That independence shows. OBI Xtra doesn’t box his sound into genres. He describes it simply as “Xtra vibe”—a fluid blend of Afropop, Afrobeats, and whatever emotion the moment demands. He’s known for testing boundaries, switching paths mid-song, and refusing to stay comfortable. Even when tagged as an Afrobeats artist, he keeps one foot outside the lines.
“Why Me” feels like a release more than a comeback. Over a smooth, emotionally charged Afropop instrumental produced by viral Ghanaian hitmaker Mirakilouz Beatz, OBI Xtra vents, reflects, and reconnects. The record carries the weight of absence, the honesty of frustration, and the calm confidence of an artist who understands timing.
This isn’t noise for the algorithm. It’s a reset.
The question isn’t why him.
The question is who’s ready when the record drops.
Pre-save is live. The comeback is loading.
