TALK TO US SPECIAL: KIING LUThe update

• Hello King Kiing Lu, welcome to a special edition of TALK WITH US by RADARCharts. We are so happy to have you with us. So, let’s know you officially. What’s your real name?
My name is Lucas Emodi.
• You seem to possess the Larry Gaga, DJ Khaled style of music. What’s the motive behind that?
Well, after pursuing a music career in 2005, I saw the need to help other artists grow. After acquiring the business knowledge, I decided to be an enthusiast. We need to make and protect good music.
• Looking back at your past musical career, do you think you’d have been a breakout by now?
Maybe yes, maybe no. The industry isn’t a ground where you define your blow time. You move with the wave. A child who started music tomorrow can become a great star over someone who started 20-30 years ago. It’s all time and chance.
• Let’s discuss the Exec lifestyle. How has the journey been so far as a music exec, seeing you’ve worked with major music labels before?
It’s been great, actually. Having the experience of being an artist/producer, combined with talent management and executive roles, creates a career blend of success. We thank God for His grace and blessings.
• People (especially artists) always ask questions about how to get themselves in the sight of all these big labels. What’s your professional advice?
It’s all about putting yourself out there. The big fishes are watching, and most of them are fans you don’t even know. Don’t let them down. Show them the shine in you. Show them why you’re worth their investment—both funds and expertise. Keep up with the steeze.
• How do you go about curating artists for your projects?
Music is all about having good networks. I get the best beats done and call on talents that fit perfectly into the vision of the project.
• What are we expecting next from Kiing Lu?
The tag, “When you’re up! You’re up!” is the motto. Expect more militancy.
• What’s your professional advice for upcoming artists out there on their journey to stardom?
If you believe in yourself, never give up. Just believe—that’s all that matters. That’s the lead.
• What motivated your profession as a producer and sound engineer?
God will forever take the glory. I couldn’t have imagined things this way. I thought I was going to study nuclear engineering.
• What was the startup like? How did you keep up with financing and rejection by other artists?
It’s a testimony and a humbling experience—starting from one step to thousands and millions of steps and more. Little beginnings should not be despised. God aided and provided for us through friends and partners who believed in and supported the process, even financially.
